The words “Please Mom” are often associated with children who want what they want and want it now. However, on the North Shore of Long Island, those same words have become synonymous with fashion forward children’s clothing and accessories.

Please Mom children’s boutique opened in Albertson over 20 years ago, and this past summer the doors of a new Woodbury location began welcoming its growing customer base. In July 2008, Marni Leiderman took over the Albertson store when the original owner decided it was time for another career path. With years of buying and fashion experience behind her, Marni was prepared to give the store a facelift by adding some of her own personal touches. “We are a full-service boutique,” she said. “We know our customers’ names, we know their children, and we know what brands they like. But most importantly, we know how our clothes fit and we use that knowledge to outfit the children from head to toe.” Along with her professional sales staff, Marni makes sure each customer leaves the store with clothing and accessories that make them feel good.

Prior to the reopening of the Albertson location, Marni hired Jaime Horowitz, whose daughter Amanda had interned for Marni’s own children’s clothing company. Jaime had extensive experience as a designer, and she used her eye for detail to ensure that the customers at Please Mom found great clothing presented beautifully. Jaime not only helped customers find the items they needed, but she began to assist Marni in selecting inventory. In 2009, Jaime partnered with Marni to open the Woodbury location. Together they have put together a selection of styles that ranges from casual to formal, with a mix of domestic and European labels. “I think what makes this store successful is that we infuse our own tastes into what we buy,” Marni said. “We buy clothing and accessories that we would want our own children to wear,” she continued. The store regularly carries brands like Lili Gaufrette, Flowers by Zoe, Lemon, Dori Creations, Splendid, Ella Moss and Les Tout Petits for girls and Trunk LTD, Joe’s Jeans, Kingsley, Diesel, Tailgate, Charlie Rocket and Gold Rush for boys. Marni and Jaime agree that “Sometimes it is harder to outfit the boys because they want to dress more casually in sports attire. But we try to bring in cool vintage looks like concert and sports t-shirts that the boys like to wear. This way the parents feel like their boys are dressing more stylishly.”

Marni and Jaime are so proud when they see customers on the street or when they send them their class pictures and holiday cards in their Please Mom outfits. They are both parents in the community and appreciate the support they have received as small business owners.

Marni and Jaime go to great lengths to keep their customers well informed of upcoming sales and the arrival of new merchandise. They encourage their customers to join their email list and visit their Facebook page. Both Please Mom locations carry clothing for babies and toddlers and children up to size 12 for boys and size 16 for girls.
